Layer crushed rock or gravel on the bottom of the container for drainage. Choose a self-feeding potting soil mix, and fill the bottom of the container. Place the dwarf fruit tree into the container so its base is 1 inch below the rim. Add more potting soil if necessary to raise the level. Fill the rest of the container with potting soil, pushing it lightly against the root ball as the container fills. Lightly water, and place dwarf tree directly into sunlight. Test the soil between watering to ensure it is not over-watered by allowing the soil to dry between 2 and 3 inches deep.
