How do I grow thornless blackberries?
EnvironmentPlace your blackberries in a place that receives full sun and has well drained acidic soil. If your soil is not acidic–you can test it with a pH test kit–ask your nursery for suggestions to make it so. Dig a hole large enough to accommodate the roots of your plant. Carefully spread the roots apart and place in the hole. Cover the roots with soil and press firmly. Water your plant.CaringPlace a trellis so that your plant can grow up it. You can purchase one or make one out of twine or wire. Water your plants with at least 1 inch of water every week. Your blackberry plant will not produce fruit the first year. Fertilize your plant in early spring. In the fall, prune the bush back, removing any old or dead cane.
