Wash the plastic tile paneling with dishwashing detergent using a coarse plastic brush. Rinse away all of the soapy residue using wet rags, as it can inhibit primer and paint adhesion. Allow the plastic tile to dry.Abrade the plastic tile paneling by scouring it with sandpaper. Place the sandpaper in a palm sander to ease the process. Sand the paneling until it feels slightly rough. Protect flooring from paint drips and splatters by covering it with fabric drop cloths.Apply a coat of acrylic latex primer to the abraded plastic tile paneling using a roller. Attach the roller to a roller extension pole for easier application. Apply primer to areas inaccessible to the roller with a paintbrush. Allow the primer to dry for two hours. Wash all painting tools with water.
