Priming Your PumpTurn off your swimming pool pump, and unplug it as well. Open the “air relief” valve–locations and specifics may vary by manufacturer–and close skimmer inlets. Open the drain valve if applicable. Simple pools, such as the easy-set pools, do not have skimmers and drain valves; the air relief valve is located in the middle of the lid and flips up. Screw the lid off of the pump to reveal the filter and inside of the pump. Turn on your garden hose, and run water into the pump until it’s overflowing. Replace the lid, and close the air relief valve; tighten lids or screws finger tight only; over tightening damages seals and allows leaks. Cover one of the water return line openings in the pool temporarily to make it easier to work if necessary.RepetitionPlug your swimming pool pump back in to activate the pump. Run it, while listening, to see if water begins to flow, indicating it is primed.
