Civilians accepting an appointment to attend the United States Military Academy Preparatory School will join the Army as an Invitational Reservist and be placed on active duty on the day they report to the Prep School. The Army will compensate cadet candidates for travel expenses in accordance with government travel regulations. Soldiers will receive orders through the Department of the Army and will be reimbursed for their travel to USMAPS. TRACKING TO SUCCESS: USMAPS employs a system of “tracking” to fully challenge all cadet candidates. Based upon their performance on a series of initial diagnostic tests and on their performance halfway through the first quarter of classroom work, Cadet Candidates are placed into specialized English and mathematics tracks.
