How do i remove mold or green mildew from my cast aluminum patio furniture?
Lacquer or other coatings are often used to protect aluminum, but your furniture’s aluminum surfaces seem to have been left bare. Aluminum is porous and forms a thin green coat of oxide when it reacts with air. There are several ways to remove aluminum oxide from your furniture:
1) Remove aluminum oxide from aluminum with silver polish. Rub the polish into the surface with a damp rag. Rinse and dry the aluminum with a soft, clean cloth.
2) Use Barkeeper’s Friend or Copper Glo, available in supermarkets and department stores, to remove aluminum oxide. Rub it into the surface with a wet rag. Wash the aluminum with a mild, nonabrasive detergent. Rinse and dry it with a clean, soft cloth.
3) Protect aluminum surfaces by coating them with lacquer or wax.
4) Put the smaller aluminum furniture in a big bowl. Add equal parts of white vinegar and boiling water. Let it sit for one hour and rinse it with water. Repeat the process if necessary.
Remember
You shouldn’t use Soap-filled steel wool pads as they can scratch aluminum.
