How do i reset the bios password on my dell latitude 120L?
Every time somebody asks about bios passwords, they always get "you stole it" I have bought many used laptops from pawn shops, thrift stores and used motherboards from ebay and sometimes they would having a password set. Also many customers of mine have set passwords and then forgot the password months later, my point is it does happen. So to answer the question almost all laptop brands (not all) use what’s known as "challenge and response" you enter 3 incorrect BIOS passwords and you are shown an message and error code, using the error code a password can be generated. many laptops use the Phoenix Bios and show a 5 digit code. Other laptops with the InsydeH2O BIOS show an 8 digit code and so on. One of the most common forgotten passwords is for the setting’s, people set that password then never type it again because a computer with a setting password is completely usable, it’s only when you wish to, say change the boot order, do you need to enter the password you set 6 months ago. as a side note, if you buy a second hand Dell and find it has a BIOS password set, you can forget getting any help from Dell, I’ve been there!
