How do I save a shrunken wool sweater?
How do I save a shrunken wool sweater? Here’s how to stretch a shrunken sweater: Almost everyone has mistakenly thrown a wool sweater into the washer and seen it shrink to nearly doll-size. Before you discard it, try a couple of techniques that could save your investment.Answer: First, when you see what has happened never put the sweater in the dryer. That will seal its fate. Fill a sink or large pan with tepid (cool) water and add 2 tablespoons of baby shampoo. Gently swish the sweater in the water to be sure that all fibers are thoroughly wet. This will often soften and relax the fibers enough to allow for reshaping. Soak for at least 30 minutes. Remove the sweater from the water without rinsing. Allow to drain. Wrap the sweater in a thick towel to absorb as much moisture as possible. Using a cork bulletin board and stainless steel push pins, gently begin stretching the sweater back into shape and pinning it into place. Allow to dry, checking on it every few hours to reshape as needed
