It's actually a better idea to donate your car if it drives. The tax deduction is considerable and you can feel good about giving your vehicle to a good cause. If you still want to sell your car to a junk yard, be prepared to present proof of ownership and remove any valuables from the car before selling it. Not all junkyards accept cars, so be sure to check first if they accept it.

I don't know how things are where you live but here in New Hampshire you have two choices. If it drives, you can drive it round the junkyards and see if you can get 50 bucks for it maybe. If it doesn't start or move you can usually call a local junk yard and they will come and tow it away at no charge to you if they don't have to come too far to get it.
