How do i spell Oliver in Latin?
Few modern names have genuine Latin equivalents. You can make a quasi-Latin name out of almost anything though, and the Romans themselves did this sort of thing themselves when they conquered a new region and assimilated its people. While both Olivarius and Oliverius have the classic –ius ending of a Roman ‘gens’ –i.e., family name, neither existed as a classical era name either as a family name or a ‘praenomen’ a first name, as we would say in English. You can Romanize it either way, but it won’t be a Latin name. That said, the name Olivarius seems to have crept into use in Medieval Latin times in what eventually becomes France, as a first name, so if you want to make a Latin sounding name with the better pedigree, so to speak, that would be the better choice. Oliverius seems to be a later derivative as a family name.
