Try a Plunger FirstPlace a plunger squarely over the drain opening. Run the faucet or dump some water into the basin, forming a water seal around the plunger (about 2 inches of water is fine). Forcefully press the plunger down and up several times, loosening the drain contents. Run very hot water down the drain when you have finished.Use a Coat HangerGet a wire coat hanger. Straighten it out the wire. Remove the drain cover and insert the wire. Twist the wire inside the drain, loosening and snaging any hair or scum inside the drain. Run very hot water down the drain when you have finished. Replace the drain cover.Remove the Cleanout PlugPlace a bucket under the plumbing U-trap (under the fixture). Locate the cleanout plug on the underside of the U-trap. Take an adjustable wrench and turn the cleanout plug to the left, until the plug loosens and comes off. Insert your straightened wire coat hanger into the pipe opening, loosening hair and soap scum. Replace the cleanout plug.
