How do laser guided weapons work?
The technique is hardly a secret and is quite simple in operation. The operator of the weapons system aims a laser, emitting a specific frequency of light, at the desired target. The weapon is released, pointed roughly in the same direction as the laser. The self-guided weapon targets the light reflected from the target and it adjusts its course to hit the illuminated target. A frequency of light is selected that is sufficiently different from normal light sources so that the weapon will not become misdirected. This is very similar to wire-guided weapon systems, except that the wire is replaced by a laser.
