The reason I ask that is because I thought people didn’t receive new bodies until the Lord returns and the “dead in Christ rise” according to I Thessalonians 4:16. Thank you for your question. It fits in so well with Easter and the hope we have in the Lord of resurrection. Multitudes of Christians have raised this question in one form or another. The heart of the question lies in answering what happens to a believer’s body after death. We know that the spiritual dimension of a believer goes to be with the Lord upon death. Our blessed Lord Jesus told the thief next to Him that he would be in Paradise with the Lord that very day (Luke 23:43). Nowhere do we get any indication of “soul sleep” or some other doctrine that implies a waiting time before entering the Lord’s presence. The Apostle Paul also supports this truth in II Corinthians 5:8, where he tells the Church that when we are away from the body (death) we are at home with the Lord.
