How Do Multimedia Projectors Work?
LCD In the case of LCD projectors, light is beam through a prism to break the light down into basic colors. The light is further filtered as it passes through constantly changing liquid crystals. The liquid crystals are stimulated by electricity to separate or tighten-allowing different amounts and shadows of light to pass through before being magnified at the lens. DLP DLP projectors beam light though a spinning color wheel. As the light passes through a single color on the wheel, only light from that color passes and the rest is filtered out. The light is reflected by a chips composed of millions of tiny micro mirrors. The mirrors on the chip are constantly changing–some are shut off while others are left on. The colors on the wheel spin fast enough that as the wheel briefly flashes a color segment of the video on the screen, the naked eye sees the complete picture.
