The Mediterranean is known to have virtually no current at all. I know, I have sailed almost all the coasts of Europe in nearly half a century. The only places you will feel a current is in the Bosporus and the strait of Gibraltar. Both of which is because the Mediterranean evaporates more than the water it gets from rivers. The current in the strait of Gibraltar, for example, always flow toward the east, to fill the Mediterranean with water. The Baltic sea, for example, sees the opposite; in the Sound, between Sweden and Denmark, the current is always running out of the Baltic that gather more water than it evaporates. To be honest, there is a tiny current in the westerly Mediterranean, going counter-clockwise but at a speed of a tiny fraction of a knot. It has no influence at all on navigation or the coastal climate. As written above, Rome is very close to Lido di Ostia and the sea. Rome’s climate is then a maritime one.
