How do other countries celebrate Labor Day?

The rest of us have their Labour Day on the first of May, except for the Irish and English, which have the first Monday in May as a bank holiday. There used to be military parades and state-sponsored obligatory “demonstrations” in the former Soviet Union and her satellites. In the UK, Ireland and the rest of Europe the first of May is an ancient holiday of Pagan origin, “Beltaine” in Irish, where people have bonfires and couples jump(ed) over them to celebrate their relationship. In Germany they used to have bonfires as well, and “May-trees” to celebrate the end of the sowing and the beginning of the serious growing of their grain and other crops. Nowadays a lot of urban people just have picknicks and try to spend the day outside the concrete jungle.
