A. Plant stanol esters reduce the absorption (inhibit the uptake) of cholesterol in the digestive tract resulting in lower serum low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and total cholesterol levels. Plant stanol esters do not affect high-density lipoprotein or triglyceride levels.
