Answer The fossils record is established by using palaeontology. The methods of describing a fossil and its age are key applications of palaeontology. There are two broad methods for fossil’s age determination: Absolute dating and relative dating. Both have been widely used and accepted since last centuries (1700s-till date). All types of fossils dating that are based upon correlation and other in-direct observation/measurements, fall in relative dating.
