Binge Eating (BE) is part of a disorder and signals emotional and psychological issues that are not being addressed appropriately. However the first question is are you binge eating or simply eating too much and too often? Believe it or not, there actually is a difference. BE is triggered by emotional or psychological disturbances or trauma. So think about the past and times when you have indulged in overeating. Was it around times when you had major issues going on or felt really ‘low’? BE is also a sign of trying to gain control over your life. Sounds odd I know but the way it works is that you eat as a form of comfort and control over what’s going on. It’s an easy answer. It’s also why other addictions develop in some people such as gambling or self-harm. BE is also a form of self-harm. Particularly when the person partaking in BE is aware of what they are doing. Hope I’ve make some sense here. My best advice would be to talk to a counsellor and see where they direct you from there.
