First of all, you have to determine that the female is in season. She will be in season every four days. One way of finding out is to run your finger along her back towards her rear end. When your fingers press on her rear end, she should sort of go still and rigid with her tail in the air. Also, an in-season female often gives off a musty smell. If you’re sure she’s in season, you can try putting her into the male hamster’s cage (never put the male into the female’s cage – they’re so much more terratorial than males, even when in season and may still try and attack the poor guy!) but don’t be surprised if they don’t hit it off straight away, sometimes it takes time. Incase they fight, make sure that you can easily access them to separate them before one or both gets hurt!
