I deal with smokeless hella more than BP so I’ll just address the cartridges… I’m just passing along a basic factory listed velocity for the light and heavy bullet weights…keep in mind there are more weights and bullet types in-between. .308 Winchester with a 150grain bullet is just over 2800fps at the muzzle. With a 180grain bullet MV is just over 2600fps. .30’06 Springfield with a 150grain bullet is just over 2900fps at the muzzle, about 2700fps with a 180grainer, and just over 2400fps with a 220 grain bullet. .223 Remington with a 45grain bullet is around 3550fps at the muzzle, with 77-80grain bullets only about 2700fps. .17HMR with a 17grainer is over 2550 fps, with a 20grain slug, about 2350. 12ga rounds with various pay loads can commonly go as low as 1145fps, up over 1500fps.
