According to the Billiard Congress of America, the game of pool derived from lawn croquet during the 15th century. The lawn game evolved into an indoor contest played on a table covered with a green cloth to simulate the original croquet playing field. Today, this fabric is not always green, however, it is typically made from acrylic felt. After extended use, the felt on a pool table can become worn and require replacement. Use measuring a tape to measure the table. Add one foot to the final measurement to ensure you have enough felt for the entire table top. Purchase a few additional yards of fabric to cover the rails. Remove the screws from the rails. These are located on the underside of the table. Pull the rails off of pool table. Remove the staples located underneath the rails.
