• Try broaching the subject of periods with her, if you’re brave enough. Ask when she started hers, and she should get the hint that you might be starting yours. • Remember if you really can’t talk to her about it (she may be hurt by this), then girlfriends are there to help. Girlfriend’s older sisters, mothers, any older female who knows you should be willing to help. (It’s strongly recommended you try talking to your own mother though. She needs to know you trust her, and she would be really upset that you can’t talk to her about this.) • Remember it’s entirely your decision if someone doesn’t give you permission. No one else gets a say in the matter if you’ve made up your mind. It’s your body, and should you get to decide when to start wearing tampons. • Understand that you can buy your own box of tampons.
