How Do You Assemble A Saxophone Mouthpiece?
Saxophones, like many woodwinds, are mechanically complex instruments with a large number of individual parts. In order to play them, you must first assemble them in the proper manner. The assembly of the mouthpiece is the most critical, and difficult, aspect of getting a saxophone ready to play, and any aspiring saxophonist must master this skill in order to even begin practicing with the instrument. Slide the back end of the mouthpiece onto the cork at the end of the saxophone’s neck. Position the mouthpiece with the reed hole facing downward. If this is physically difficult, you may need to rub cork grease onto the cork to allow the mouthpiece to slide on easily. You need not worry about how far onto the cork to slide the mouthpiece at this time, as you will need to adjust it later on to tune the instrument. Moisten the reed in your mouth or a cup of water for several minutes, until the thin half is flexible and wet all the way through. You do not need to moisten the thicker base po
