How Do You Attend A Small Screenwriting Awards Ceremony?
It might come in the mail or in email or it might be a phone call, but that small screenplay competition is now ready to hand out their awards and you are invited. What do you do now? Remember that just because you were invited to the awards ceremony does not mean that you have won. Go in the spirit of being honored to just be a part of it. Dress appropriately. Most small ceremonies aren’t black tie, but don’t show up in ratty jeans and a t-shirt either. Think dressy casual for most occasions. Print out or have printed business cards with your contact information on the front and your screenplay and logline on the back. These occasions are perfect for networking and you don’t know who you will meet. Burn your screenplay to CDs. Make a number of copies. Include copies of your screenplay in as many formats as you can, including text files, Word documents and any special screenplay format that you own–Movie Magic and Final Draft.
