Project plans are very important to accomplish goals and objectives. If a project is not planned properly it is not likely the goals and objectives will be accomplished in an efficient manner. Project plan audits are necessary to ensure that project managers are doing their jobs properly. Project plan audits put project managers on notice that there is accountability in the project management process. Conduct a risk analysis to determine which project plans to audit. It may not be practical to audit all project plans, and even if you could, they should still be prioritized by risk to the overall operation. Select the most important project to audit based on risk to the organization. Gain an understanding of the goals and objectives of the project plan being audited. This information should be provided by the project managers and should also be contained in the project plan.
