The chemical called BPA is toxic. This chemical is commonly used in plastics for baby bottles, food and drink containers and as lining of food cans. Plastic is such a widely used product in our everyday lives, it can be hard to avoid it, but you can take some extra precautions to keep yourself and your family safe from ingesting harmful chemicals. Avoid BPA by avoiding plastic whenever possible by using glass, ceramic dishes or stainless steel bottles. Wash all your plastic containers by hand, even those Tupperware containers that say “Dishwasher Safe”. The heat can break down the plastic and increase the chance that the toxic chemical, BPA, will leach into your food or beverages. If you buy glass Tupperware, you do not have to worry at all. Do not microwave your food in plastic containers even if they say “microwave safe” because again, the heat breaks down the material and will be more likely to leach the toxic chemical BPA into your food.
