• Have a genuine interest in horse and horse racing. • Lots of people don’t really know much when they start the job, but you should gain some basic experience. Do this quickly; places are limited and you want to make sure you get in first with some little experience. • When you complete the course, you should be given a place in a yard. Failing all that, you need to start hunting yourself for a small yard to gain the experience. • When you are in your yard, you need to buckle down, be the best there. There will be people that try to bring you down and make you leave but ignore it and battle on because they just want to be the jockey.
