How Do You Be Safe At The Trailhead?
Don’t let your hiking adventure turn bad by not taking the necessary steps to protect your vehicle at the trailhead. If you are driving to a remote trailhead to set off on a hike, plan before you leave to keep your property safe. Leave valuables at home. If you are not taking an item on the hike with you, don’t take it to the trailhead with you. Take only the ID, money, credit cards, and electronics that you can carry comfortably in your pack. Don’t plan on leaving items in your trunk. A locked trunk is not a deterrent and does not guarantee safety. The best way to guarantee your property is safe is to have someone transport you to the trailhead and pick you up at the end of your hike. But if you must drive, park your vehicle as close to a lighted area as possible. Be aware of the cars and people around the parking area.
