Two decades ago you couldn't become a home office designer. These days it's a lucrative niche. Many entrepreneurs who are working out of their home made their reputation at larger companies. They appreciate a productive workspace and they've got the money to spend. The following steps will help you tap into this market. Work on your decorating sense. Notice the use of space, lighting, decor, colors and other design elements everywhere you go. Look through interior design magazines for samples. Get a Bachelor's degree in interior design. You'll need it to get an internship, certification and professional association membership. Expect to take courses in computer-aided design (CAD), use of space, colors, fabrics, furniture, architecture and ergonomics. Apprentice with an experienced designer in a design or architectural company. You can also create displays in furniture stores.
