Obtain a contractor license from the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance Board for Licensing Contractors if you plan on working on projects valued at $25,000 or more. Participate in an apprentice training program through the National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee, or another reputable apprentice training program, and complete any required classroom training. Register for the Electrical Contractor and Business Law and Management exams administered by PSI Services. This can be accomplished online through the PSI web site or over the phone, and you will have to pay $44 as of September 2009 for each test. If you are a licensed electrical contractor in Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi.
