How Do You Become A Police Officer In Colorado?

0

Its fairly easy to become a police officer in Colorado but several steps need to be taken first. Before you can even apply for an academy or police dept you cannot be a police officer if you have any of these things: DUI in the last 3 years, felony conviction, Domestic Violence in the last 5 years, no drug use in the last 5 years….etc. Many departments are much more strict than this and this is the bare minimum. Attend an academy. You can pay your own way through some of the junior college police academies or have already applied for a dept. and be hired while they send you through the academy on their dollar. Most academies last 5 months. After graduation you will be required to take the State POST test which costs $125 and has 100 questions. Without passing the POST test you cannot become a police officer. With POST certification you can be hired anywhere in the State and you are on your way to becoming a Police Officer!
