Follow the steps below to go through the process to wear the gray Stetson hat that is the most recognized symbol of this elite group of troopers. Obtain the State Trooper Trainee Application by logging on to Connecticut Department of Administrative Services where you can fill out the application online. Pass an 85-question multiple choice written test and a physical fitness test. After successfully passing these two tests, the Department of Public Safety will administer the rest of the testing process. Take a polygraph examination and a background check. You can’t have a felony conviction in your past if you want to qualify to become a Connecticut State Trooper. Complete a psychological and medical evaluation by state appointed therapist and physician. Set up an interview to be offered a place in the 7 month-long Trooper Trainee Academy.
