Boresighting is the first step in sighting in a newly installed rifle scope. If you have your scope professionally installed, it will also be boresighted; but if you install a new scope yourself, you will need to boresight it before taking it to the range for the shooting steps of sighting in. Boresighting is a simple process and can be performed in a few minutes as long as you have access to 25 yards of space. Secure the rifle in place by resting it on the sandbags or rest or by clamping it gently but securely in the vise. Point the gun at a wall or target 25 yards away. Remove the bolt from the gun. Look through the barrel from the breech end toward the muzzle end. Take note of the spot on the wall or target where the barrel is pointed and mark it with a pen or marker. Look through the scope at the wall, making sure the gun does not move from its original position. Adjust the scope as necessary by turning the windage knobs so that the scope is focused on the mark where the barrel is
