You can step over short electric fences around your garden, but you’ll typically need a gate for any garden fence more than about 2 feet tall. Rather than purchasing a costly manufactured gate for your garden, just convert an inexpensive wire livestock panel into a garden gate. You can mount it easily on both wooden and steel posts. Look for a livestock panel at your local farm and ranch store; use 36-inch-tall livestock panels for a short fence or 54-inch-tall livestock panels for a taller fence. They’re typically available in 16-foot-long sections, so you’ll need to cut one down to use it for your garden gate. Measure your gate opening.
