How Do You Build A Racing Engine?
Racing engines are no more difficult to build than regular engines, and use the same types of parts—the parts are of higher quality, allowing for high RPM, horsepower and torque. With the additional horsepower and torque, things tend to break much easier, so special bolts, stronger rods and stiffer rings are used in a rebuild. Step 1 Check the cylinders for size, scoring, taper and ridge before you purchase the pistons. Rotate an inside mic and as you go down the cylinder and look for taper or out of round situations on all cylinders. Check for size–as long as the cylinders are no more than 3 thousandths oversized they are OK. Finally, feel for a ridge at the top of the cylinder. If the cylinders have any of the above things wrong with them, they will need to be bored. Step 2 Install the oil restrictors pursuant to the instructions for our particular application. Put some Teflon tape on the plugs before installation. Step 3 Turn the block over and install the crank using STP on all
