School projects are as old as schooling itself, and one of the most common projects is to build a volcano. Even the Brady children on the old sitcom crafted a volcano for a school project, although theirs blew up in their family room. Despite being an often-seen assignment, it is a useful tool for learning, and you can easily build a volcano with materials you most likely have at home. Cut a piece of plywood to the size you desire to build your volcano upon. Paint the board to resemble the setting of a volcano. Shape the chicken wire into the shape of a volcano, and tear the newspaper into strips. Mix one part warm water to two parts of glue until the mixture is smooth. Dip the strips of newspaper into the mixture and layer them over the wire volcano. Create a small receptacle about two inches deep in the upper cone of the volcano, using the paper mache.
