How Do You Build Pocket Rockets With Matches?
The Urban Dictionary defines a “pocket rocket” as a home crafted projectile made with a match and aluminum foil. The projectile can fly up to 10 or 12 feet and is relatively harmless although it should only be used under adult supervision and treated much like other fireworks. Remove a paper match from a book of matches. Cut a 1 inch by 1 inch piece of aluminum foil. Wrap the head of the match in a piece of aluminum or tin foil. Center the head of the match in the piece of foil as much as possible. Place the foil covered match on a launching surface, such as a bent paper clip, that leaves the head of the match exposed. Hold a lit match under the foil cover head of the rocket. The heat of the flames will ignite the rocket. The aluminum foil routes the gases created by the flames backwards creating thrust and forcing the rocket forward.
