The red maple, or Acer rubrum, is a colorful tree, popular in landscaping uses for its red-tinged leaves, flowers and buds. The red maple tree can be grown successfully throughout North America in hardiness zones 3 to 9. Red maples are good shade trees, reaching 40 to 60 feet in height and 40 feet wide. Buying a mature red maple tree will improve your yard's appearance without having to wait years for the tree to grow. Mature trees might sound daunting but you should be able to find them with little difficulty. Determine how many mature red maple trees you need and where you'll plant them.
