Carpet Pythons are medium sized, semi-arboreal snakes from New Guinea and Australia. These pythons are an excellent choice for the beginning snake keeper. By following the steps in this article you will learn the basics of keeping these beautiful and rewarding serpents. Purchase a secure and well ventilated enclosure for the snake. Hatchling Carpet Pythons do best in small shoe box size enclosures. A good size is around 8×14 inches and certainly nothing larger than a 10 gallon glass aquarium. As your python grows be sure to provide it with a cage that is at least half as long as the snake. An adult will eventually require a cage with about 5 or 6 square feet of floor space.
