The following steps guide you through the installation of the thermostat in the 2005 Cobalt. Make sure the engine is completely cool. Drain the cooling system. Loosen the bolts to the thermostat housing to the water pump feed pipe. Take off the bolts and set them aside. Remove the feed pipe. Take out the thermostat and the retaining sleeve. Note the orientation of the sleeve for correct positioning during the installation. Make a scribe mark as needed. Install the new thermostat and its retaining sleeve.
