The third and final generation of the Geo Metro was available from 1995 through 1997. Developed originally by Suzuki in 1983, the model offered in the U.S. as the Chevy Sprint, Pontiac Firefly, the Suzuki Swift, the Geo Metro as well as more than a half dozen other nameplates worldwide. A number of the third generation Metros are still on the road and a great find for the used-vehicle buyer. This is a beginner level do-it-yourself project for the removal and installation of the thermostat in these models. Make sure the engine is completely cool. Drain the cooling system until the level of coolant is below the thermostat. Remove the air cleaner. Take the electrical connector from the engine coolant temperature switch (when it is mounted to the thermostat housing). Disconnect the inlet hose. Loosen and remove the housing bolts and then remove the thermostat housing. Discard the gasket. Clean any gasket material and debris from the mounting surfaces. Set the new thermostat into the ...
