How Do You Choose A College Musical Theater Program?
If singing, dancing and acting is your game, you might want to try your hand at a college musical theater program. These programs are not created equally, however. Refer to this list of criteria in order to find the right one for you that will cater to your strengths, talents and passions. Make a list of at least five schools you are interested in applying/auditioning for, and then do your research. Northwestern University, for example, has one of the top Musical Theater programs in the country, but does not allow students to audition for the program. Students may only send an application, essays and recommendations. New York University, as another option, has two musical theater programs: CAP 21 in the Tisch School of the Arts, and The Steinhardt School of Education’s Music Theater Program.
