High kick routines please crowds. Everyone likes to watch a great high kick routine at a halftime show. Choreographers can create interesting kick lines by varying the sequence of kicks. Look at the height of all your dancers. The usual order for high kick lines is the tallest dancer goes in the middle, and then the line goes down in height on each side. For a different look, you can arrange all the dancers in an ascending height line. Do high kicks for 16 counts alternating right leg kicks and left leg kicks. This is the traditional look for a kick line. You can also bring the leg up to a bent knee “passe” before doing the straight leg kick. Repeat several fan kicks on either the right side or left side. Crowds love the effect of the fan kicks. Do at least 8 kicks to get the full effect. Choreograph a complicated kick sequence in the dance to challenge the dancers.
