It doesn’t matter how much we spend to gussy up our bathrooms, or how pristinely we decorate them–they all meet the same fate. Face it, some nasty things take place in bathrooms, and even though we make them appear as though they’re pleasant places, someone must eventually grasp reality and clean this little space. That includes scrubbing the toilets, wiping down the sinks, and–even worse–cleaning out the bathtub drain. While that’s not a job that needs to be done every day or two, it should be performed routinely. A few simple steps can make this unpleasant task a little bit easier. Put on rubber gloves before starting this task. Take the end of the screwdriver and slip it gently underneath the very edge of the round fitting that keeps the bathtub drain in place. Pry gently until you can fit your fingers underneath the ring, and gently pull it upward. In some instances, this ring is fastened by one or two screws.
