How Do You Clean A Dogs Wound?

• Calm your dog. Your animal may not notice that it has an injury. On the other hand, it may be stressed. Soothe your dog by petting it gently, speaking to it in a slow, calm voice, and offering some food treats. • Clip away hair from around the wound. This will allow you a good look at the wound, and will keep hair from trapping dirt or from irritating the exposed flesh. • Flush out the wound with warm salt water (add 2 tsp of sea salt to 1 cup warm water, and stir until dissolved). Fill a turkey baster with water and squirt it gently into the wound until it is clean. Alternately, pour the water directly over the wound. • Pat dry with sterile gauze. • Apply antibiotic cream or spray. Check wound daily for signs of infection or abnormal healing.
