A tarantula’s habitat should be given a light cleaning every few days and a deep cleaning every six months. This helps reduce the chance of an invasion of mites or phorid flies and the growth of fungus as well as keep odors down. Read on to learn more. Use long-handled tweezers every few days, to remove balls of undigested matter, molts and uneaten food. Watch to see if the tarantulas have sprayed their waste onto the side of their tank. They often do this. Every few days, scrape it off with a single-edged razor. Clean the tarantula’s habitat every six to nine months, or whenever it begins to smell like mildew. Place your tarantula in a small enclosure while you clean the habitat. Dispose of the soil and wash the tank and any habitat items in hot, soapy water. Allow to air dry, refill the tank with soil and replace the tarantula.
