How Do You Clean Air Conditioning Filters?

Air conditioning filters can be electrostatically charged to capture dust, debris, pet dander and allergens that would otherwise invade a home and cause unclean air. Particles that enter into the A/C system from dirty air filters will make the system work harder and cause higher electricity bills and can eventually make their way to components, leading to replacement of the entire system. Remove the nondisposable air conditioning filter by sliding it completely out of the front grill. The edge of the filter frame protrudes on either one side or both sides of the grill. Grasp the edge and pull in either direction to remove the filter. Vacuum the filter to remove loose allergens, spores and dust. Fill the kitchen sink with warm water and dish soap. Use a cloth to wash the filter thoroughly until it is easy to see through and there is not any dirty water coming out of the filter. Rinse the filter thoroughly with clean water. Dry the filter with a clean towel and set it aside on the towel.
