Pour the water into a clean dishpan. Measure 1 cup of vinegar. Add the vinegar to the dishpan of boiling water. Mix the vinegar and water together with a spoon until they are well blended. Submerge stainless steel items with baked-on grease into the dishpan of hot water and vinegar. Make sure the items are completely covered. Allow the stainless steel items to soak in the vinegar and water solution for about 20 minutes. Stir the items around in the dishpan midway through soaking.
