How Do You Clean Concrete Before Installing New Carpet?

0

Before installing new carpet on a concrete surface, it’s important to start with a smooth, clean surface that is free of bumps. Some texture is acceptable, depending on the thickness of your new pad and carpeting. For best results, get the concrete floors completely clean before laying down new carpets. Sweep the area completely. Removing the old carpet kicks up a lot of dust and debris. There will be carpet fibers, pieces of the old pad and years of dirt accumulated under the rug. Scrape away large areas of carpet adhesive. Use a metal scraper to manually remove the biggest portions of dried adhesive. Sweep up the debris with your broom. Apply a ΒΌ inch thick layer of adhesive remover to any remaining carpet glue. Allow the chemical to penetrate the glue for at least 30 minutes. Open windows and doors to provide ventilation from the noxious fumes, and wear a mask, rubber gloves and goggles. Test a small area of glue with the scraper. If the glue comes up easily, you are ready to scrape
